Appearance: There are only male Leprechauns, all of whom look like stocky little old men about 12" tall. Their clothes are generally somewhat shabby and in tones of brown or dark green. Most wear leather aprons, woolen waistcoats, knee breeches, stockings, and brogues, as well as a three cornered hat which they enjoy sitting in, spinning wildly, at parties. Leprechauns always have beards, usually red, but sometimes in shades of brown. Many are slightly potbellied.

Lifestyle: While much is made of their treasure hoarding, Leprechauns prefer to spend most of their time either "guarding" human wine cellars or cobbling shoes for other fairies, by which they make a good living. In fact, the wages that they earn (not Danish treasure) are the source of their pots of gold, though it is of course fairy gold, of little or no use to humankind even if they did succeed in getting hold of any (as magical moneys have a tendency to fade away to nothing in the possession of non-magical beings). However, the Leprechauns do take some pleasure from exploiting human ignorance of this fact, leading them on all sorts of wild goose chases after what people could never get anyway. While in such moods, Leprechauns can seem nonsensical; they are really quite clever, despite their mind being often dulled with drink. Consumption of alcohol is a passion for them, drinking both stolen human goods, particularly whiskey, and their own home brewed poteen. They also enjoy the vices of pipe smoking and swearing, and have been known to ogle human women to no end (given the nonexistence of female leprechauns this is perhaps understandable). On the better mannered end, Leprechauns also have a love of music and dancing, though they stay aloof from the flighty prancing of other fairies.

Human Interaction: While human greed brings about crazy leprechaun led treasure hunts; it is Leprechaun greediness for drink that forms their more lasting attachment to mankind. Most leprechauns enjoy living in, or at least near, people's wine cellars and are happy to "bless" them with their presence in exchange for a steady supply of booze (luckily, given the tiny size of the Leprechauns they usually do not consume too great a part of the humans' stores). Only if people attempt to kick him out will the Leprechaun misbehave, usually by taking corks out of all the best wines and letting them turn into vinegar. They also enjoy engaging people in the occasional word game. Lastly, after particularly good parties, Leprechauns have been known to "borrow" pets and small livestock, harness them, and ride them jubilantly about the countryside. For all their annoyances however, Leprechauns are nonetheless well-meaning creatures, with only the best feelings for all of humanity.
