Why: These seemingly banal images of native animals and plants have very different connotations for their makers, the Nagumwasuck. To them these are nostalgic memories of the world they were once in tune with, here made flat and one-dimensional replicas. Too, the infinite reproducibility of the stamps speaks of the Nagumwasuck's own obsession with boosting numbers and thereby putting off the inevitable extinction of their tribe and the way of life they once knew.
Details: The prints are merely examples of what you can produce with the stamp sculptures. |
